How secure is your caravan?
Even if you keep it on your own driveway it is still vulnerable to thieves. There are several ways that you can deter them. This page will help you understand the role different security devices play in keeping your tourer safe.
Hitchlocks

A hitchlock like this will prevent the caravan from being towed. It is important to use one that covers the towing hitch bolts. If not, a determined thief could replace the whole hitch enabling the van to be towed away.
If our would-be caravan thief has made it past the hitchlock we could slow him down with a wheelclamp. These can sometimes be difficult to fit as it may be necessary to remove the wheel trim each time. This type of security is suited to long term storage or if you are sited on a touring park for a number of weeks.
These are quite simple devices that prevent the corner steady legs from being raised. This means that they will scrape and dig into the ground if the van is towed against its will.
Wherever you keep your caravan an alarm system would be a worthwhile investment. There are many different types available but if you need some help choosing check our review pages for more info. But remember the most expensive is not always the best.
Insure your van against theft. Most policies do give you third party cover and higher end policies will give you accidental cover. As with all insurance its best to shop around for the best deal. Remember to include contents cover as you will be unpleasantly surprised if you have to pay to replace the awning, gas bottles, battery, cooking utensils, microwave, T.V etc.
